103 tiger ebony wooden beads and 5 sterling silver beads are set on a thread and finished with a solid fine silver buddha head signifying the ‘guru bead’. The buddha head is a symbol of wisdom. 108 beads are used in the malas because according to Yogic tradition, there are 108 sacred sites throughout India and 108 sacred places on the body.
The beads can be used to count mantras. Start at the Buddha head and count each of the beads using your thumb to slide each bead. Ebony is said to be a protective wood that gives strength to the wearer.
Tiger ebony (diospyros blancoi) is a dense hardwood that is native to southern India. The smaller beads measure approx. 6mm and the larger beads approx. 10mm. The tiger ebony beads have a fine texture and very smooth finish making them an excellent choice for use during meditation. Two sterling silver beads have a 'faceted' finish, two have a 'Moon' cut finish and one has a smooth finish.
All jewellery items are packaged ready to give as that perfect gift.
